I've been trolling through style.com mens fashion week feeling less than inspired. And it hasn't necessarily been the merchandise, but rather the presentation. Sorry fellas, sullen faces, sunken cheeks, glued to the forehead hair, and overpowering staging thematics, have all contributed to a glum set of collections.
Finally, this morning, I came across a show which put together all the right components. The models varied in look-- they were all handsome (which clearly helps)-- but each with a personality. The casting showed diversity in age, hair style, and best of all showed the fashion. I didn't have to imagine a town of Sicilian fishermen, cheeky golfers, or men who could only wear a drop crotch. Surprisingly enough, the house isn't one of my mainstay go to's, like Prada (which requires zero tailoring), YSL, or Lanvin (king of fabric innovation)-- but rather Gucci-- a brand whose GG print I tire of, is predictable, and overtly label conscious.
However...
The fabrications were a mix of new age classic prints, beautiful silk bordeaux solids, and tapered pants that snapped around the ankle, revealing a red piped trim. The show opened with a modern day business casual blazer, styled for a walk down a manhattan sidewalk, and flipped effortlessly into sportier options that actually seemed practical (chunky knits, outerwear, quilted leather) and ended with evening wear reminiscent of the sexiness Mr. Ford oozes. Simple. Easy. Chic.
